2024 Retrospective

Some highlights of my year.

Since I haven’t been able to publish any posts this year and I haven’t done a retrospective here on the blog in a few years, I decided to bring back this series of posts and comment on some highlights of my year.

A large part of the memories were saved/shared on Instagram. So take the hint and follow me there: instagram.com/rafaelfunchal

Florence and Rome, Italy

At the end of February and the beginning of March, I had the opportunity to travel with my team from WordPress.com to Florence, Italy, for a week.

After a week of work, I took a vacation with my wife to visit museums, churches, and restaurants in Florence and Rome. In addition to visiting several tourist spots, we were able to participate in the Angelus at the Vatican and see Pope Francis, even if from afar.

WordCamp US – Portland, Oregon

In September, I participated in WordCamp US 2024 in Portland, Oregon, USA, as part of the team at the WordPress.com booth and Contributor Day.

WordCamps are official events of the WordPress community. WordCamp US is one of the largest WordCamps in the world and had nearly 2,000 attendees over four days of the event.

In addition to WordPress.com, Automattic’s super booth brought together other companies from the group, such as WP VIP, Jetpack, WooCommerce, WP Cloud, Pressable, and DayOne.

Participating in the event and meeting many friends from the WordPress community in person after several years without attending a WordCamp was excellent. Of course, I picked up several giveaways from the sponsors.

This was my second WordCamp US. The first WordCamp US I attended was the first edition in 2015 in Philadelphia, a month after being hired by Automattic – I’ve been with the company for 9 years now.

Music

In 2024, I dedicated myself more to music than in previous years. I played in different places and learned more about mixing and luthierie, which allowed me to perform maintenance and minor repairs on my instruments.

Well, that’s it. I hope you have a great start to the year and that I can write more here in 2025 🙂

Comment on how your year went and what you wish for this new year.
